The Walrus Audio Canvas Mono is a Direct Box / Line Isolator designed to provide a clean, dependable bridge between your instrument/rig and the mixer or recording interface. It’s a passive unit that converts an unbalanced signal into a balanced signal via a transformer to the XLR output, all in a pedal-sized enclosure made to live right on your board.

Canvas Mono combines two essential tools in one: DI (Direct Injection) and LI (Line Isolator). In DI mode, it’s intended for high-impedance sources like electric guitar or bass: the signal is reduced by −20 dB (or −35 dB with pad engaged) and converted to balanced, then you use your mixer/preamp gain to bring it up as needed. In LI mode, it’s meant for low-impedance sources (DSP amp-in-a-box rigs, keys, etc.): the signal stays at full level and is converted to balanced, typically requiring less preamp gain.

Because it’s passive, you won’t damage anything if you choose the wrong mode, but you may notice changes in level or frequency response. For example, if you lose high end in LI, you likely want DI.
