The Electronic Audio Experiments Greathammer is a bass-focused overdrive that delivers a distinct kind of solid-state thunder. With a 50 dB gain range, it can stay restrained and articulate or get properly rowdy when pushed.

EAE took cues from a beloved 1970s Canadian bass amplifier, but didn’t hesitate to redesign major circuit blocks from scratch. The goal was to retain the classic piano-like attack associated with 90s noise rock, while expanding the tonal range to cover everything from tasteful drive to filthy, down-tuned mayhem.

A defining strength is how the circuit achieves significantly deeper low-frequency extension than its predecessors without the unnatural, disconnected feel of a traditional clean blend. The low end stays integrated and solid, even under heavy gain.

Greathammer works equally well in front of an amp or as a dedicated preamp. And while bass is the primary focus, it can be striking on guitar too.
