Crazy Tube Circuits White Whale Junior – Real spring reverb and analog amp-style tremolo

Real spring reverb · 3-spring tank · Amp-style tremolo · Dwell/Tone/Mix/Volume · Reverb before tremolo · True relay bypass · 9V 110mA

The Crazy Tube Circuits White Whale Junior condenses an idea that once felt almost impossible: a fully analog real spring reverb paired with an amp-style tremolo, inside a much more compact, pedalboard-friendly format.

This is not a digital spring reverb simulation. Inside the White Whale Junior there is a real 3-spring tank, using the same family of spring assembly found in the larger White Whale models. That means it reacts the way a mechanical reverb should: with splash, physical movement, small irregularities, resonance and the three-dimensional character that the best emulations try to imitate — but here, it happens for real.

In terms of sonic family, the White Whale Junior sits in the world of vintage brownface/blackface amplifiers and classic 60s outboard spring reverb units. That traditional reverb-before-tremolo architecture is a huge part of the sound: the tremolo pulses not only the dry guitar, but also the reverb decay, creating the deep, spacious and organic movement associated with surf, spaghetti western, soul, garage, blues and vintage amp tones.

The reverb section uses a dedicated analog power amplifier to drive the springs, rather than feeding the tank from a weak low-level signal path. Crazy Tube Circuits carefully voiced the driver to recreate some of the subtle saturation associated with a tube power amp and output transformer. As you turn up the Dwell, the reverb does not simply become louder or longer: it gains depth, compression, warmth and that expressive “drip” players want from a real spring unit.

The controls are what you would expect from a serious spring reverb device: Dwell sets how hard the springs are driven, Tone shapes brightness and presence, Mix blends wet signal over dry signal like the reverb control on a vintage amp, and Volume lets you match bypass level or add a clean boost when needed.

The tremolo section blends two classic worlds: the smooth pulse of optical tremolo and the more organic movement of tube bias-style designs. It is not designed as a modern tremolo with endless unusual waveforms; it is built to feel like a big, musical, direct amp tremolo, from slow immersive pulses to more defined rhythmic movement.

Like every genuine spring device, White Whale Junior also interacts physically with the world around it: vibration, movement, playing dynamics and bumps can make the springs splash, breathe and become part of the performance. That is exactly the magic.

  • Mix: blends wet signal over the dry signal
  • Tone: shapes reverb brightness, presence and character

Tremolo

  • Volume: adjusts the tremolo section level
  • Speed: controls tremolo rate
  • Intensity: adjusts pulse depth
