The Electronic Audio Experiments Citadel is a preamp-style overdrive inspired by the enduring sounds of 60s and 70s British amplifiers—not a single model, but the best parts of an era: warm piano-like cleans, bright clear overdrive, and sizzling lead tones.

Citadel grew out of experiments around the Model feT, asking “what if we flavor this concept our own way?” You can think of it as a re-plexi-fied Model T idea: trading low-end sludge for a more sparkly, mid-focused voice while keeping punch and authority. In another sense, it’s what EAE would do if the original Model T wasn’t too sacrosanct to modify.

Like the Model feT, Citadel emulates both the preamp and power amp sections of a tube amp, delivering a full-bodied drive that feels powerful and takes boosts, drives, and fuzzes in front exceptionally well. Use it as a conventional drive pedal or as the workhorse of an ampless signal chain.

Controls

• Bright Gain: adds gain from the Bright channel (chime/sparkle); fully muted at zero
• Normal Gain: adds gain from the Normal channel (dark/full); fully muted at zero
• Bass / Midrange / Treble: FMV tone stack, moderately mid-scooped and subtle; best from clean to medium gain
  • For a flatter pedal-style voicing: Midrange max, Bass and Treble at zero
• Master: overall output level, capable of very high volume
