The Catalinbread Topanga is based on the legendary Fender 6G15 outboard spring reverb, capturing the drip, clang and aggressive feel that defined classic surf—and plenty of other 60s tones. The key difference versus many built-in amp springs is the outboard approach: it’s meant to run in front of the amp, letting the reverb hit the front end harder and get more intense in a very distinctive way.

The control set mirrors the classic unit, with a practical modern extra:

• Dwell sets how hard the “springs” are driven (from mellow to full-tilt drip).
• Tone is a low-pass filter for the reverb output (wide open is common, but you can mellow it for background verbs).
• Mix blends dry to fully wet (into driven amps/pedals you’ll typically use less Mix, just like the original).
• Volume controls overall output (dry + reverb) and the gain of the discrete preamp, giving you a healthy clean boost when you want it.

Under the hood there’s a “Buff. / T.B.” switch: T.B. is true bypass; Buff. is “trails” mode (tails continue after bypass) and also lets you preset the Volume for clean boost or unity always-on buffering via the discrete preamp.
